ATP-Week of 7/26-Call To Action!
Hello!!
Are you stuck in your physical program? Are you in a rut? Are you procrastinating when you know you need to take action?
"Patterns of action are like habits. They are "rules" we follow automatically-the things we do that we don't even think about. We've all got them. We have patterns of action for how we work, how we eat, how we relate to other people, how we do just about everything. What makes a pattern of action good or bad is simply whether it takes us closer to or pushes us further away from our goals." Bill Phillips
Are you ready to step toward your goal? The choice is yours.
The question I'm asking myself this week is "where am I physically "stuck" in my BFL program?" What action do I need to take to get "unstuck?" Am I willing to take that action? How bad do I want to reach my goal?
Where are you "stuck" and what action do you plan to take?
I'm a bit sore today. I did 10 miles yesterday and my body is screaming at me this morning. I'm leaving the office at noon to go for a walk with a friend. It is actually raining here in Albuquerque so we are all doing the happy dance!
Have a beautiful day!!!!
Julia

A most timely post, Julia! Thank you! I enjoyed a good work out this morning...15 minutes of treadmill...30 minutes of UBWO...followed by 20 minutes interval on the bike...felt good. Meal 1 was eggs, turkey bacon, ww toast, 2 % cheese Meal 2 was protein shake, 1 tbls of peanut butter Meal 3: 2 veggie burgers, salad, broccoli Meal 4: EAS Advant shake Meal 5: grilled chicken, brussels sprouts, almonds Meal 6: cott ch, blueberries I don't think I am really stuck, however, I have had to change my priorities. I was in danger of allowing my gym time to take second place...only for a week, but I could tell the difference. The Mustang will run good only Chevron Premium 93 gasoline...most expensive available here. In an effort to cut down expenses the past week I have tried to do everything I need to do while in town. I have been guilty of less than stellar work out efforts or skipping a couple of them altogether. Yesterday, I got "unstuck" before I dug a rut that was too deep. I decided that my continued good health was worth the investment of extra money for driviing back into the gym, or whatever! Thanks, for your enthusiasm, Julia. You are an inspiration and an example of what BFL is all about! KA-BAM!

Thanks for a great start Julia / F Pebbles! 10 miles? That blows my mind. I can't wrap my head around that I'd ever be able to do that. Were you ever in my shoes?
Your day sounds good & delicious Larry.
I've been in many a rut. I like that saying "the first thing you should do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging". Part of the key is realizing you are in the hole especially when its in the beginning state. How many people realize that they are digging and choose to ignore it? I know I'm guilty at times. My key is to just start plugging away again. After a couple of days I seem to get psyched again about what it is I'm after. Of course I'm speaking about my definitiion of stuck as skipping workouts and not getting stagnant with an existing workout.
oops gotta run. I'll try to pop in later or tomorrow before we leave.
Chris

It became clear to me last week that I was tiring of P90X. First I tensed and thought about the fight to keep with it. But then I realized...why? My goal at this point is to always be doing some sort of exercise and consistently practice good nutrition. What I choose to do, and for how long, is not as important as being sure to continually work at it.
I'm feeling the desire to get back to lifting, but I have seen the benefits of stretching and warming up through P90X. So I will combine those routines with my lifting.
People are always feeling like they are losing if they don't complete the "12 weeks". I realized, when it's for "life", radical change is nice, but it's not what it is about. And the mentality can't always be a 12 week mentality. The long haul takes a different set of priorities to maintain.
Had a real strong reminder of why I do this. Was pulling down some heavy boxes from up above shelves when the box broke, the stuff inside came down on my head and I fell down the ladder (luckily only a few feet). It was one of those times when you pause, check for broken bones or blood. Luckily none of either. But I was thinking...how much worse might it have been without my conditioning. People my age fall and break bones.
So looks like my good habit might be to always keep it fresh, but always keep it going.

Good morning warriors!!!!
I just had my cottage cheese, greek yogurt and blueberries. I'm sipping on black coffee and focusing on the day at hand.
I had a lovely walk with a good friend yesterday afternoon. We walked at the Rio Grande Nature Center for an hour and a half. I love walking now that I run. I use to not like walking either but now I really enjoy walking!!LOL! I have discovered that walking and hiking use different muscles than running so I love the muscle confusion.
Today is an HIIT run at lunch with HR.

Hello beautiful people yes I have been training hard trust me slowpoke speed should be the national gold standard for running, but it is not so today we had speed training. Quarter mile increments of delightful torture. I felt like I was at the all you can run buffet. I was totally hyper after todays run, having to become one with the bike settle this precious body right down. Another training day tucked neatly into the annals of history. My pray is that I will keeping doing what I need to do to get what I really want. Payback is gonna be awesome. Love much and value whats really important.

Hi everyone. I don't have much to add to the mix today, but at least wanted to post. Not back to working out yet, but I am watching the nutrition side. I should only be a few more days before I start lifting again.
It is at times like this...the down time...when it great to have others who are carrying the ball and keeping the motivation up.
Thanks everyone. Way to go Team ATP!

How Do I Get it All Done?? by: Michael Harris 1/4/2008
________________________________________
It's a fair question. Body for Life is a substantial commitment, and about 3 to 5 days in to it, many new trainees are asking, with a touch of panic in their voices, "How can I get it all done?" The question is usually preceded by a long list of commitments already, things like a 12 hour work schedule, homeschooling several children, working two jobs, going to school full time, traveling for their job. Each one of these "obstacles" seems to make it impossible to do Body for Life, doesn't it?
well, one thing is for sure. That is, if you have made Body for Life a priority in your life, then you can do it. A priority is simply something that will come ahead of other things--no matter what. If that is the case, you'll get it done. For most of us, and especially for those who are confused at the moment, the problem is that we SAID we made it a priority, but we ACT like it was just another project we could squeeze in. Too many new trainees are simply over scheduled and undercommited.
Look, I know you can't stop a home school curriculum right now, nor can you convince a hospital to put you on 8 hour days if you are a 12 hour shift nurse, but certainly there are OTHER ways of getting this done. I commute 2 hours a day, conduct hearing dockets that typically go without a break for 5 to 7 hours a day, and have other work after that, but I still do Body for Life. I still have lawns to mow, snow to shovel, shopping to do, cars to fix, and lots of other things, but I get it done--simply because I MAKE IT A PRIORITY. In other words, I set aside the time for it, and I let NOTHING else interfere with that. Cardio gets done early in the morning; workout gets done as soon as I get home from work. I have to get up at 5, and yes there are days it seems dreadful, but I do it. I had to invest in a gym in my basement to be able to get that workout done the minute I get home, so I did it.
Priority. What are you willing to do to make this work? Or is this just another flimsy effort that will end up in the same dusty corner of your life as the old Thighmaster machine or the 900 video exercise tapes you sold at your last garage sale? The difference between BFL and that other garbage is that THIS WILL WORK--but it takes making it a PRIORITY! Let's do this! MAKE THE COMMITMENT! Then, keep it! Write it down now--what you will do, and when and how!
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS AND DREAMS IN 2008 AND BEYOND
1. Vision Despite anything your mind may be telling you isn't possible, have a vision of what 2008 can be for you. Forget about 'realistic' thinking and just 'dream big.' Take a few moments to make list of everything you want to achieve in the New Year.
2. Believe You have to believe that your dreams and goals are possible. Because anything is possible if you believe it is so!! There will be people somewhere who will make the exact same goals and dreams that you have written down become realities in their lives. You Too Can Be One Of Those Peoples who has turn their goals and dreams into realities!!! But you have to believe in yourself, and you have to believe that it is possible!!!! And It Is Possible!!! You Can Do It!!!
3. Passion You need a passion to do whatever it takes to attain your goals. To help you to understand this point, think of a time in your life when you had enough of a consistent, passionate desire for something that you did whatever it took to get it. Perhaps it was an improvement in your view of the world. Maybe you wanted to get in shape. Maybe you wanted to excel at some sport. That's what you need! Passion is the key ingredient here. Not just today, but tomorrow, next week...consistently! (In fact, let me give you an ABC of success: Always Be Consistent.)
4. Willingness If you truly have a passionate desire, willingness to do what it takes is not an issue at all, and is even obvious. It's still worth mentioning that you have to be willing to consistently do whatever it takes to reach your goals.

Reading Mike's blog (posted above) created conflict for me.
I was thinking earlier in the day, that though I obviously wasn't going to complete the Mike Harris Memorial challenge (since I'm switching programs about once a month) - it was OK - because that my constant involvement in exercise and nutrition are still a testament to the impact that Mike has had on me. I want to believe that my efforts to continually maintain "the good life" pay honor to his memory.
Though other goals are also pressing at this time, I have to rethink whether NOT sticking with a particular challenge is slacking on my part.
I kinda figure that if I continuously (with pauses) workout and eat right through the 12 week period of the challenge (and actually long after it), then, I am honoring Mike and all that he stood for.
Like I've said before, the guy meant a lot to me and I want to do right by him.

Jeff - thanks for the post by Mike - I saved it to read later.
Buff - your words made me think - I've been asked if I died in 5 years what would I be doing now? Me thinks I'd go to Europe and hitchhike around - just kidding but fun to think about.

Hi guys-- My back is doing better, but still having problems with the left hammie and butt area--which is making me wonder if it is all tied in and possible related to the back....anyway, I took 2 days off of any workouts--slept in yesterday until 6:30am felt really weird to not workout before work. Rode my bike for about an hour to the park and back today. leg still hurting ....very frustrating! I feel as if I am falling apart lately. Jeff--so glad you are okay after that fall! Yes, I work with many folks your age that have broken hips from that sort of thing--and I do believe the level of fitness you have achieved is a huge buffer for you from such things. Carry on!!! Bettie---Yay--can't wait to have you start us off Jules--10 miles--my leg aches and my back hurts just thinking about it. Larry--I am like your Mustang--I tell my hubby it takes expensive fuel to run me Chris--how are you doing? Hi Buff!! Welcome back Dawn!!!!!!!!!
